10 Random Things About Me

  • I have never had a 9-5 job. I’ve never had a full-time job. My employment history consists of part time and casual jobs. I worked at Target for about 6 months, I worked during University at a holiday place where my family live. I’d go back for the big Christmas break and work through the holidays and earn (hopefully) enough cash to supplement my Youth Allowance until the Easter break and then so on. I worked there for about 5 years during my breaks and only stopped because I moved away. I also worked at Coles – most short lived career ever! I worked nightfill but there was no roster. You just rang in and asked if there was enough work. The first X amount of callers (depending on how many they needed) got a yes, the rest got a no. Except no one ever had to ring in to pick up the Saturday shift. They used to ring us for that one! Needless to say, I stopped ringing. I was often in lectures or tutes during the “window” or I was asleep if I’d worked the night before! Stupid system. If there’d been a roster and I’d been guaranteed 3 or so shifts a week, it would’ve been good!
  • I’d held one newborn before I gave birth to my son and I’d never changed a nappy! I come from a small family – one younger brother, but he’s only 3yrs younger and all my cousins are older than I am. I had no experience with babies growing up. My friends never got pregnant through high school or university, never got married and popped out kids, etc. It wasn’t until I was 6 months pregnant that a friend of mine had a baby and I went around to see her when the baby was 2wks old. I was so very awkward with her! Looking back on it, it was hilarious! I soon learned when I had Hunter!
  • I’m not naturally visually creative. I sincerely wish I was. I see people who produce such beautiful work and I wish that I had those creative ideas. When I scrapbook I nearly always need a sketch or instructions to start me off. Often I deviate from the sketch or whatever, but I very rarely ever just sit down and create a page with no “assistance”. I don’t really have a naturally artistic eye. My creativity is all written. I write stories and have done ever since I was seven. I wish I was more artistic. I wish I could sew and make things. I wish I could paint. I’m painstakingly trying to teach myself some of these techniques. Maybe it’ll come to me!
  • I genuinely love my DH’s family. They welcomed me so whole-heartedly when they could’ve had some pretty severe reservations and they’ve always made me feel a very big part of everything, right from the start. I guess it helps that they’re not fans of the ex-wife, lol. I think they see that I make him happy.
  • I know that I’m incredibly spoiled by DH. I don’t cook, wash up and I don’t do washing – he does all of that. He was a single dad for a while before I came and he’s pretty set in his ways. It helps that he really does enjoy cooking. And I really don’t. So we fit together perfectly in that respect. I know I can buy whatever I want and he’ll never say anything. I don’t though. I try to be very careful with our money. I don’t like to spend a lot on myself. Obviously I buy clothes, or scrapping stuff. But I definitely analyse each purchase before making it. Just how much do I need it, can it wait, etc. I vaccum, mop, make the beds and clean the kitchen/bathroom. All jobs DH hates.
  • I could spend all day as a passenger in a car. I absolutely LOVE going for drives. It doesn’t really matter where. I love day trips, road trips, etc. Unfortunately, DH does a LOT of driving for work and usually has no inclination to get into a car on his day off but occasionally, when he has 3-4 days off in a row, one of the days in the middle, we’ll go for a little day trip. I have always loved being in the car. I like the opportunity to spend uninterrupted time with DH too. It’s a nice, intimate little thing for us. We have lots of serious talks about stuff when we’re on one of our trips. It just somehow all comes out.
  • I have started a diary every year for the past 12 years, with varying degrees of success. Sometimes I make it all the way to the end of the year. Sometimes I don’t make it past March. But I do it every year. And I love it. I love the idea of a written diary. I collect notebooks and journals and keep them in a box beside my bed until I think of a use for them. I have inspiration journals, I have a recipe journal, I have a journal that expands on some occurences in my life that need more than the page my diary allows, lol. I’m always looking for the next cute little notebook. Borders is my current fave stockist. Their notebooks are beautiful.
  • My dream (if DH and I ever win the lottery) is to buy a property down in the south west somewhere. Somewhere we can rear greyhound pups, I can keep a horse (or horses) and we can grow fruit trees, olives, veggies, etc. I still like the cities and would need regular trips to town to keep from going insane but I would absolutely love to live on land. Of course it’ll probably never happen – but we buy the lotto tickets anyway ;)
  • I love the Beatles. My Mum is a massive fan and played them a lot when I was growing up. At the moment I’ve been listening to the remastered stuff. I always put them on when I’m scrapping. It’s just nice stuff to hum along to and doesn’t distract me.
  • Despite absolutely hating cooking myself (unless it’s a random voluntary moment where I feel like baking something), I am addicted to the Food Channel. I am an avid watcher of so many shows – The F Word, The Cook & The Chef, Everyday Italian, Huey’s Cooking Aventures, The Best In Australia, Chef At Home, etc. I love love love watching other people cook. I find recipes for DH to try. I clock up hours a week watching that stuff. I love it.

It’s taken me nearly 90mins to do this!

Blog posting isn’t always easy and it can be time consuming, but perhaps you can mix your love of diaries and blogging to make it through to next year…

That’s the plan! I’m hoping that one helps with the other!
